The World's Highest Resolution Image

Apparently it has been created as a "stitched" image, which means that is built up of a number of smaller images. The whole thing results as a 8.6 gigapixel photo of an Italian fresco painted by Gaudenzio Ferrari (1513).

To really see how amazing this image is, keep zooming into details. The image uses a technique similar to Google maps to re-load parts of the image in higher resolution, because otherwise, downloading an 8.6 gigapixel would take quite some time...
